Yosemite 2018

Finally got a chance to get back into nature with a short getaway over the Easter weekend. Having to go back to the grind the next week limited us to just a few days, with not much time to do extensive backpacking/hiking. It was great getting to play tourist and see some of the nation’s iconic landmarks, the massive granite cliffs are famous for good reason. As you stare up at these 2,000 ft monuments, it’s hard to properly gage the scale of it all. Despite the crowds it was still a blast, only had a few frustrating moments dealing with parking and traffic. Summer must be dreadfully packed with visitors, I can see why most nature lovers prefer to visit the park in winter. We chose a walk-in campsite, no reservations needed but it did get a bit crowded.

Got to test out some snowshoe rentals, which really was fun. I am just starting to welcome the idea of alpine mountaineering, I’ve been intrigued for a while but never had the chance to get training. It was nice to get a sense of just how much more energy and endurance is required when snow and ice is a factor. You have to have great fitness and grit to do winter backpacking.

I also got to test the timelapse feature of my gopro out in this little video:

*SEIZURE WARNING*  I’m not familiar with epilepsy but there are clips in the video below with a distorted frame rate, creating a flashing effect. It’s possible this may trigger individuals who are prone to seizures.
